Keyvan Moghissi (22 June 1927 – 13 November 2025)

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Keyvan Moghissi on 13th November 2025. During the formative years of the British Medical Laser Association (BMLA) in the early 1980s, several individuals undertook groundbreaking work in Lasers for medical use, and Keyvan was one of them.
Keyvan established the wide use of laser and photodynamic therapy (PDT) in cardiothoracic surgery.
Keyvan founded the Yorkshire Laser Centre to ensure the continuity of laser technology. He had a unique personality, often seen with a faint smile on his face. Always willing to share his knowledge and support his junior colleagues, Keyvan was a lively and knowledgeable presenter who chaired the PDT sessions during the BMLA’s academic activities. His authoritative delivery was truly impressive. He demonstrated a strong dedication to both his work and his patients while advancing academia.
His passing marks an era when lasers and PDT became standard modes of management for cardiothoracic conditions. Rest in peace, Keyvan; your legacy serves as an inspiration for others to follow.
